SWITCH has discontinued its direct customer business for .li domain names in February 2013. Domain names with the ending .li can be registered and administered via the recognised Partners of SWITCH.
Since the start of the Internet in Switzerland, SWITCH has been the registry for domain names ending in .ch and .li and has ensured that they have been accessible from all over the globe. SWITCH registers and administers .ch domain names for direct customers on a reliable and correct basis on behalf of the Swiss Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM). SWITCH acts as the .li registry for recognised Partners on behalf of the Office of Telecommunications of the Principality of Liechtenstein. As an independent Foundation, SWITCH performs these responsible functions with a high level of technical competence. It thus makes a key contribution to the stability of the Internet.
Continued steady growth in the number of domain names being registered means that SWITCH has been in a position to cut the price of a domain name to CHF 15.50 with effect from 1 February 2014.
As a partner of the universities, SWITCH brought the Internet to Switzerland more than 25 years ago. Today, the non-profit organisation with 100 employees at its headquarters in Zurich develops Internet services for lecturers, researchers and students, as well as for commercial customers. It acts as the registry for all .ch and .li domain names, ensuring the security and stability of the Swiss Internet.
